Improve the quality of the food that you eat and see how that will change your mood, energy levels or improve sleep. Detox juices will not only supply your body with important nutrients and fluids that will help hydrate your body.

This article will provide you with tips, inspiration and a few juice recipes for detox and weight loss.

Green Juice Recipes For Detox And Weight Loss

What Is Detox?

Our body is exposed to many toxins in food we eat and the environment we live in. These toxins are chemicals, heavy metals and other harmful substances. Luckily our bodies are made to deal with these toxins naturally. Liver and kidneys are kind of purifying stations that remove harmful substances from our body.

There are many forms of diets and detox plans out there these days. Commonly it involves fasting or restricting our diet to specific types of food. Some promote nutrition intake only in the form of juice that is easier and faster to digest. The main point is to lower our exposure to toxins and replace them with plenty of vitamins and minerals.

Whatever diet path you will decide to pursue, always consult it with your doctor first.

Juices can introduce big nutritious boosts to your everyday life. Raw vegetables, fruits, seeds and nuts are sources of vitamins and minerals and other compounds that are important for optimal performance of our bodies.

We should eat fresh vegetables every day. Raw consumption retains the most nutrition that can be digested in our bodies. To reach our daily nutritional target we need to consume large volumes.

Sometimes we are not in the mood for a salad, or it may not complement our main meal. We may have less time to prepare it as well, especially during busy weekday mornings with our eyes constantly on the clocks after we pressed the snooze button too often.

Juicers can help us reach sufficient levels of vitamins and minerals from fresh vegetables by compressing them into a glass, or a jug. Some, like this model, can do it even faster than you may expect and save your precious time.

How Does It Promote Weight Loss

Sorry to disappoint you. There is not much scientific evidence that you can lose weight only by drinking juice.

Juices may introduce some ingredients that help your metabolism work faster and better, like for example ginger. In combination with exercise and an active lifestyle it may improve and speed up fat burning.

Another situation in which it may be useful for weight loss is that some juice detoxifying diets limit intake of carbohydrates. These diets are mainly focused on vegetables, which contain carbs as well, but in much lower amounts compared to rice, flour or starchy vegetables like potatoes.

Some people boast about their positive feelings after a detox diet. You can spot when their social media feed fills up with posts about active lifestyle and healthy motivational quotes, for some time. Removing harmful food products from your diet and replacing them with ingredients that were missing may make you feel energized and vital. Cigarettes, alcohol and processed “junk” food develop a lot of toxins. High amounts put a lot of pressure on your liver and kidneys.

Juices are also useful when your body is lacking specific vitamins or minerals. You could focus on juicing vegetables rich in the specific micronutrients that you are missing in your diet. Using quality fresh produce could become your own natural pharmacy.

Healthy Skin And A Younger Look

Skin is the largest organ in, or more-like on, our body. It can give away a lot of information about our well-being and health. To maintain healthy skin, drink a lot of fluids to keep it hydrated alongside a sufficient supply of vitamins and minerals especially Zinc, Selenium and Copper. Green juices full of leafy greens like spinach and kale can help supply your body with these nutrients and keep your skin healthy and make it heal fast. It may help reduce acne or wrinkles on your face.

Juices for detox can help build healthy skin, make you look younger and give a boost to your confidence. Another great way to make your skin look clear and healthy is spending some quality time sweating in a sauna.

Clean Your Liver

If you feel it is time to give up late nights with many drinks for a while, don’t just suddenly jump on the first diet trend that you saw on your Facebook feed. The chances are that you will give it up quickly. We usually don’t cope well with sudden drastic changes in our lifestyles. Slowly embracing and adopting a healthy lifestyle goes a long way.

To start your detox journey focus on your water consumption first. Do you drink enough? Drinking a lot of water helps your liver and kidneys remove waste from your body. Enough liquids in your diet can improve weight loss by making you feel more full and aiding your metabolism.

Water-rich vegetables like cucumber or zucchini are the best addition to all green juices. It can easily help you Increase your water and nutrition intake. Their mild flavour is easy to pair with most ingredients.

Can Store-Bought Juices Do The Trick?

Juices packed in carton boxes stored on the shelves appear healthy because of the plentiful pictures of fruits and vegetables on the packaging. These are usually highly processed drinks, full of sugar and stabilisers so they can keep long on the shelves.

Additionally, commercial juices are lacking the most important part.

Most of it is lost during the processing methods. They are some of the most unhealthy drinks that could be bought in shops, right next to the fizzy soft drinks.

These products will not help you detoxify your body, nor will they aid in weight loss.

How About Detoxifying Pills And Supplements?

Always check the studies related to the detoxifying supplements you consider using and their credibility. The lucrative food supplement market is riddled with fake products promising great results but delivering none.

Be especially cautious about weight-reducing supplements with laxative properties. You should always consult taking food supplements with your doctor.

Focus on a quality diet. Remember, there are no shortcuts to good health. No matter how creative and convincing food supplement ads look.

Importance Of A Whole Food Diet

One of the best ways to keep healthy is very simple. Focus on a whole food diet. Avoid eating processed foods if possible.

Food companies process food to extend its shelf life by removing most nutrition and replacing it with preservatives, sugars and other ingredients that will keep the colours, shape and taste intact until somebody buys it.

Use as many fresh vegetables as possible for your detox juice.

Juicing can help you enrich your diet of vitamins and nutrition, especially if you have a picky eater in your family that doesn’t cope well with vegetables. Let your kids be part of the process and make them help you around your kitchen.

Another beneficial feature of fresh homemade juices is that it helps hydrate your body with water. Cucumbers and watermelons have a great amount of water in their fibres.

Can Smoothies Help?

Don’t forget about smoothies. They are quick and easy to make. Smoothies contain dietary fibre that helps prevent constipation and promote the growth of beneficial bacteria in your gut. Your diet should include dietary fibre. It helps digestion and improves weight loss. A green spinach smoothie could do the trick

The main difference between a juice and a smoothie is that the juicer separates the fibre from juice and discards it, while the blender will blend everything together. Leaving no waste. Is blender a better option for your lifestyle?

Reduce The Toxins In Your Environment

While you should steer clear of toxic people, the same goes for toxic food. Try to limit consumption of alcohol, cigarettes and processed food. The biggest sources of toxins and free radicals.

Another big reason to incorporate more quality nutrition into your diet is when you don’t want to change your lifestyle. If giving up smoking and cutting on drinks with friends sounds daunting, consider balancing the unhealthiness with vitamin and mineral-rich juice fix.

Did you know that smoking depletes vitamin C supplies by more than one third, compared to non-smokers?

Nutrition Rich Ingredients

Make your own variations or create whole new recipes of juices for detox and weight loss. See what works for you. Keep what is useful and discard what is not.

Dark leafy vegetables are some of the most nutrient-rich vegetables out there.

Low on calories and full of vitamins and minerals. Eating a lot of kale will introduce significant amounts of nutrient content into your diet. Juice it whole with the stem as well.

It has a great impact on healthy skin due to the rich vitamin A content, which helps regulate skin cell regeneration. Spinach also helps synthesise collagen that is important for skin elasticity. Try it in this skin rejuvenating soup.

Another leafy vegetable that is full of micronutrients necessary for detox. Its slightly peppery flavour matches beetroot very well. Try to add it to your juice for an extra kick.

A cruciferous vegetable belonging to the cabbage plant family. Same as kale or broccoli. This vegetable will give a big boost to your immune system. It’s rich in vitamin B6 which is important for red blood cell development and other functions. Its other compounds may reduce the risk of heart disease. Kohlrabi pairs well with radishes, ginger, tomatoes and bacon. However, I would be well impressed if you can use bacon in a juice and still call it healthy and tasty.

Red Cabbage

Anthocyanins are compounds that give it its red colour and can be found in strawberries or raspberries as well. They may reduce the risk of cancer, improve heart health and help prevent brain disease. Eating raw red cabbage will get the most of its generous nutrition into your body. It is not expensive and can yield a lot of juice.

Beets have a long list of benefits, especially when consumed raw. Among other micronutrients, they are a rich source of nitrates and may lower blood pressure and improve physical performance. Juice them raw, with skin on a centrifugal juicer and save time.

Protect your body with this powerful spice loaded with antioxidants. It helps fight and prevent cold, may reduce nausea and support heart health to name a few of its benefits. Most importantly, in relation to weight loss, it improves digestion and metabolism. Combined with a healthy diet and active lifestyle it may help burn calories faster.

Try These Green Juice Recipes For Detox

1. Peppery Jade

green juice recipes

  • 1 green bell pepper
  • ½ Lime
  • 1 bunch of cilantro
  • 2 zucchini
  • 6 cherry tomatoes

Try this recipe for detox with bell pepper. Its sweet flavour makes this green juice stand out from other more common recipes. Cherry tomatoes add umami flavour to the glass. Zucchini increases the water content of this juice. If you are using a centrifugal type of juicer, compress the cilantro in your hands forming a ball. Send it down the feeding chute in between the harder ingredients like zucchinis. They will push and press the cilantro on the juicing blades, helping juice extraction. Don’t increase the amount as it is quite strong in flavour.

2. Cabbage Kick

  • ½ small cabbage
  • 4 stalks of celery
  • 1 thumb sized piece of ginger
  • 100g spinach
  • 1 green apple

  • This refreshing recipe will supply your body with valuable antioxidants and tons of vitamin C. Best to drink it in the morning to get a wake-up kick, especially with that ginger. You can add a tablespoon of unfiltered cider vinegar for its multiple health benefits. In that case, stretch the drink with a splash of mineral water. Alternatively, use red cabbage.

3. Hangover Juice

After a night out and a few drinks start your day with this rejuvenating potion. It will replenish you with the vitamin C that was depleted by alcohol. Adding soda water will make it more refreshing, but most importantly it will help rehydrate your body. Hangovers cause headaches mainly because of dehydration. Just think about it. How many glasses did you have last night? And how many of those were water?

4. Spinach & Almonds

  • 200g spinach
  • 1 pear
  • 34 stalks of rhubarb
  • A handful of diamonds (soaked in water overnight)

This recipe will work only with juicers that can make nut milk. Soak the unroasted, unsalted almonds overnight in filtered water. Rinse them and add to the juicer. Don’t add all at the same time, it may clog or damage your juicer. See the full DIY almond milk recipe. Almonds, like other nuts, are a great source of fatty acids that are important for our brain function among other benefits. Alternatively, you can top up the juice with unsweetened almond milk.

5. Green Grapefruit

  • 1 grapefruit
  • 150g kale
  • 1 bunch of fresh mint
  • ¼ of a watermelon

Grapefruit contains many antioxidants and other nutrients to boost your immunity system and it may improve your heart health. Watermelon balances the tart citrusy flavour and adds a lot of water into this concoction. Juice fresh mint and kale pressed together for better juicing results.

6. Hot Cucumber

  • 1 cucumber
  • 1/2 Lemon
  • 1 bunch of fresh mint
  • A bigger piece of ginger

A refreshing combination to boost your metabolism and help hydrate your body. Add a few cubes of ice, some simple garnish and you have yourself an appealing mocktail for sunny afternoons. Have it in the mornings as a detox drink. And with a splash of gin in the evening for a retox.

7. Broccoli & Lime

  • 1 broccoli with stem
  • 2 celery sticks
  • 100g spinach
  • 1 cucumber
  • ½ Lime

Broccoli is usually cooked in most dishes. Cooking lowers its nutritional volume. The fine nutrients reduce in number as the heat goes up. Eating it raw is possible, but not that palatable. Juicers can extract its vitamins and minerals rich liquid and make it into a refreshing drink. Celery with lime juice adds a nice snap to the mellow flavours of spinach and broccoli.
