If you are the lucky owner of the compact and innovative cooking solution known as the Ninja Foodi, you probably cannot wait to start whipping up some delicious meals.

How about a perfect slice of roast beef slathered with BBQ sauce or piled beside a serving of mashed potatoes and gravy for a delicious Sunday dinner?

I will guide you on how to cook roast beef in a Ninja Foodi.

What Is A Ninja Foodi?

The Ninja Foodi is the best cooking tool to have in your kitchen. It serves various roles. Besides being a pressure cooker, it also works as an air fryer, a steamer, and a slow cooker.

It allows you to prepare different meals in minimal time. Besides having a fast cook time, it is reasonably priced and comes in a size big enough to serve a family of four.

Despite its many pros, there are some downsides to it, such as it is difficult to fit the appliance in smaller spaces. It also does not have a delay timer.

It has numerous cooking features with clearly labelled buttons. You can roast, sear and sauté, allowing you to make a wide range of recipes.

The appliance includes a six-litre large cooking pot, a cook and crisp basket for steaming and air frying, and a reversible rack. If you are short on space, the numerous attachments can be a bit inconvenient.

However, its usefulness is worth clearing up some space. It is easy to maintain and use. The various functions mean you can whip up family-sized meals with a push of a button and in a fraction of the time as other appliances.

You can use the air fryer to make Yorkshire pudding, fry chicken or crispy french fries. The slow cooker is perfect for making morning oatmeal, stews, jambalaya, or soups. You can cook a side dish of veggies in the steamer and use the pressure cooker for cooking tender cuts of meat and fluffy white rice.

How To Cook Roast Beef In The Ninja Foodi

To start the process, you need to take out your roast and bring it to room temperature. This usually takes an hour. This first step is important to evenly cook the roast beef in the Ninja Foodi.

Once the roast has come down to room temperature, get generous with the seasoning. You can use the seasonings mentioned below, or you can rub your own seasonings.

You can use just salt and pepper too. However, for best results, make use of Kosher salt or sea salt and coarse ground pepper.

Set your Ninja Foodi on Pressure and allow it to preheat for 10 minutes. Place the rack on the lower end. Once the rack and appliance get preheated, you are ready to begin cooking immediately.

Place the roast on the rack and cook it for 25 minutes. Once the time is up, leave the roast inside and keep the lid closed. Let the roast stay inside the Ninja Foodi for 20 to 25 minutes with the appliance turned off. This will give you a medium-rare roast beef.

After 20 to 25 minutes, remove your roast and allow it to cool for an additional 10 minutes. Once it has cooled down, cut thin slices against the grain.

The cooking time mentioned here is for a three-pound top-round roast. You will need to adjust times based on your size roast. For accuracy, use a quality meat thermometer.

As per FDA recommendation, beef roasts should be cooked to an internal temperature of 63° C.

Rub Ingredients

  • 2 and 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons sea salt
  • 2 and 1/2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 2 tablespoons coarse pepper

Cooking Times And Temperatures For Roast Beef

The cooking time and temperature of the Ninja Foodi will vary based on how well done you like your roast beef. Since not everyone prefers a medium roast, here are the cooking times for various levels of doneness.

  • Well Done: A well-done roast beef will have little or no pink. You will need to cook the meat for 30 minutes before lowering the temperature to 149° C and allowing it to bake for 10 to 15 minutes.

Turn off the Ninja Foodi and let it sit in the hot pot until you get an internal temperature of 71° C.
  • Medium Well: A medium-well roast beef will have a slightly pink centre. Cook the beef for 30 minutes before reducing the heat to 149° C and letting it bake for 5 to 10 minutes.

With the appliance turned off, let the roast beef sit in the pot until you get an internal temperature of 66° C.
  • Medium: A medium roast beef has a warm pink centre. Allow the meat to cook for 30 minutes before turning off the Ninja Foodi. Let it sit in the pot for 30 minutes until an internal temperature of 63° C registers.
  • Medium-Rare: A medium-rare roast beef has a warm red centre. As per our recipe, cook the meat for 25 minutes before turning off the appliance. Allow the roast beef to sit inside for 25 minutes until it registers an internal temperature of 57° C.
  • Rare: A rare roast beef will have a cool red centre. To get rare roast beef, you will need to cook the meat for 20 minutes before turning off the Ninja Foodi. Allow the roast beef to rest in the pot for 20 minutes until it reaches an internal temperature of 52° C.

In case you are not slicing and serving it up immediately, allow the roast beef to carry over cooking by removing it from the Ninja Foodi at around 5 degrees less than the desired temperature.

Best Meat Cuts For A Roast Beef

The top round is the best choice for roast beef. Though you can make any cut work, the bottom round or the eye of the round will not be as tender as the top round.

Round cuts are tough cuts of meat and come from the hind legs and rump of the beast. They are very lean and flavourful cuts.

Cooking them to medium-rare is the best way of serving them. Once cooked, make sure you slice across the grain. You will get tough meat if you do not. Also, make sure to cut very thin slices for the best texture and flavour.

How To Cook Roast Beef In A Ninja Foodi: Summing Up

The Ninja Foodi is a valuable appliance to add to your kitchen. The versatile tool is quick in cooking various dishes and easy enough to be used by even the most inexperienced chef.

You can use the Ninja Foodi to prepare a flavourful roast beef in about an hour’s time. The directions for cooking the perfect roast beef are simple and easy to follow.
