What Can The Instant Pot Duo 60 with 13 One Touch Programs Do?

Meal preparation has never been easier with the Instant Pot Duo 60 13 one-touch programs. Whether you’re in the mood for a hearty soup, savoury stew or delicious chilli, this smart stainless steel pot is a fantastic choice for your kitchen.

It also allows you to slow cook your favourite meats, use the sauté function for cooking vegetables to perfection, cook fluffy rice and creamy porridge, and even make homemade yoghurt. The Sauté function has only three temperature settings, and the pot limits how much you can brown.

One-touch programs are incredibly efficient and versatile, allowing you to pressure cook all your meals to perfection in a fraction of the time of conventional cooking.

Before the “cooking time” you set on the Instant Pot starts, it needs to pressurize. This takes longer the more food you put in the pot. It will take 10 minutes (and sometimes more) to fully pressurize and start cooking. Plus, with its convenient “keep warm” function, you can be sure your meals stay at the perfect temperature until you’re ready to eat.

How It Performs As A Rice Cooker

If you’re like me, cooking rice can be a bit of a headache. Getting the water-to-rice ratio and monitoring the pot to ensure it doesn’t boil over can be a hassle—quality multi-cookers like Instant Pot Duo 60 promise to make cooking rice easier.

The IP Duo 60 can make many rice and grains, like white, brown and wild rice. You need to add liquid and rice. Then, the Instant Pot cooks it all by itself. No more burnt or undercooked rice- now you’ll get perfect grains every time.

How It Performs As A Steamer

The Instant Pot Duo 60 is a great steamer for cooking various foods, as it can retain moisture well. It is suitable for cooking vegetables and seafood, resulting in visually pleasing and delicious dishes.

One bonus is that food cooked in this steamer also maintains more of its nutritional value, making it a healthier option for those looking to maintain a balanced diet.

How We Tested

Slow Cooker Test

We tested the Instant Pot Duo 60’s slow cooker function by adding eight cups of water and setting it on “low”. After two hours of heating, we measured the water temperature to ensure it was at least 165 degrees F. We found that the temperature was 180 degrees F, proving the appliance’s reliability.

We continued to heat the water for another eight hours, after which we checked the temperature again. To our delight, the water had reached a whopping 215 degrees F. The Duo 60 exceeded our expectations regarding reliability, and we highly recommend it to all slow cooker enthusiasts.

Rice Cooker Test

We put the IP Duo 60 electric pressure cooker to the rice test, cooking white and brown rice following the manufacturer’s instructions. Our results were perfectly cooked rice with firm and separate grains and no excess water left in the pot.

There was also little to no browning on the base. While brown rice was slightly firmer than white rice, it, too, came out perfectly cooked with no browning.

Yoghurt Maker Test

We followed a simple recipe to test the Instant Pot Duo 60 as a yoghurt maker. First, we poured 2L of whole milk into the stainless steel inner pot and used the Yogurt function to boil the milk to the desired temperature of 180°F. After confirming the temperature, we heated it with the “Slow Cook Less” function for 15 minutes.

Once the milk was hot enough, we cooled it to 110°F and added 32g of plain yoghurt with active bacterial cultures. We incubated the yoghurt with the Yogurt Normal function until it was perfectly set. After cooling it in the fridge for a few hours, we tasted our delicious homemade yoghurt and were pleasantly surprised by how easy the Instant Pot made this process.

Steamer Test

To put the Instant Pot Duo 60 to the test, we followed a few simple steps. First, we filled the inner bowl with one cup of liquid and placed the steamer basket and food on top. Then, we locked the lid and set the pressure valve to “Sealing” mode before selecting the “Steam” function and adjusting the cooking time with the -/+ buttons.

When the timer ran out, we eagerly performed a quick release and opened the Instant Pot to reveal perfectly steamed food. The process was straightforward, and the results were delicious, making the Instant Pot Duo 60 a modern-day steamer for any kitchen.

Usability And Cleanup Tests

As we delved into testing the IP Duo 60 stovetop pressure cooker, our main focus was its usability and cleanup. We took a thorough approach, putting the machine through its paces as a steamer, yoghurt maker, rice cooker, and slow cooker.

From the start, we wanted to evaluate how intuitive its controls were and whether it lived up to its reputation as an easy-to-use appliance. Once each test was complete, we tackled the always-dreaded task of cleaning, taking the time to hand-wash the basket and bowl to see how easily they could be restored to their original state.

The quick-release button easily releases steam pressure, keeping mess to a minimum for easy clean-up. And, if you have a favourite way of cooking or often use specific smart programs, it can remember your preferences, making your cooking experience even more enjoyable.

What We Don’t Like

The Instant Pot Duo 60 is a popular kitchen appliance, but it’s not without its downsides. One of the main complaints is its weight and size- it can be a challenge to move it around, especially when it’s full. The lids and accessories can take up valuable storage space in your kitchen, which can be frustrating.

Also, the air fryer basket is a bit on the small side, which can be limiting for those who like to air fry larger quantities of food. Despite these drawbacks, many users still swear by the Instant Pot Duo 60’s versatility and convenience.

Who Should Buy The Duo 60?

The Instant Pot Duo 60 can be a great addition to your kitchen if you want to streamline meal prep and avoid using multiple kitchen tools. It has 13 one-touch smart programs, so you don’t need to determine the right time and pressure settings for your favourite dishes. This appliance can do everything from soup, chilli, and rice to yoghurt.

With the added convenience of a keep warm feature and the ability to pressure cook, you’ll enjoy your meals exactly how you like them without any hassle.

Instant Pot Duo 60 Review: Summing Up

The Instant Pot Duo 60 is a versatile and spacious multi-cooker, highly praised for its multifunctional capabilities, including pressure cooking, slow cooking, steaming, and making yoghurt. Its 5.7L capacity and stainless steel construction make it durable and easy to clean. Despite a learning curve for its numerous functions and bulky design, the Instant Pot Duo 60 is an efficient kitchen tool that saves time and space. However, its size and weight might be a downside for some users.
